We're looking for a UI/UX expert for client-side design and development for our Virgo service, which provides a search-and-discovery interface to the Unversity of Virginia Library catalog and digital object repository, and for the next incarnation of our Libra service, UVa's self-deposit institutional repository.

Posting Summary:
The UVa Library is well known for excellent service, as a leader in innovative technologies within the higher education community and in collaboration to provide maximum benefit to the community it serves. This position takes a lead role in web interface design and development for the University of Virginia Library services and applications. The UI/UX Designer & Developer will report to the Manager of Software & Systems Engineering and will work closely with a wide variety of people across the library (the SSE team, the UX Librarian, fellow web developers, project teams and communities supporting usability, testing and interface issues) and within higher education. The majority of daily work will involve developing complex custom software designed to enhance user appeal and utility as well as the site's overall functionality, creating web front-end user interfaces to enable new or existing services web accessible, and developing custom code to integrate third-party applications to web platforms where necessary.

The selected candidate will address complex problems and will be expected to use expertise and standards to guide solution proposals. Colleagues and management will be a resource of support in resolving blockers, providing project management, priority setting and providing additional expertise.

Incumbent should possess good verbal and written communication skills to convey technical guidance and information to colleagues, library faculty and staff. The Library values mentoring and encourages all staff to share their expertise when an opportunity is evident. The UI/UX Designer & Developer will work with many people and as needed, will provide guidance to more junior staff members.
