Essential Functions
The GIS Librarian will assume responsibility for all aspects of the library’s GIS program, including instruction and outreach, data access and acquisition, provision of software/hardware, and future planning for GIS services.

Work closely with all subject librarians in outreach efforts to identify and support GIS opportunities in their disciplines. Responsible for coordination of GIS related data acquisition and access efforts, working closely with the Digital Data Outreach librarian and Digital Repository librarian. Assist faculty and students with specific GIS projects in support of their research, teaching, and learning endeavors.

Work with University’s GIS Coordinator on campus-wide GIS projects

Work closely with Library Systems to ensure appropriate technical support for library GIS functions.

Provide GIS training as needed.

Keep abreast of current trends in GIS and related technology.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
ALA accredited MLS.  Degree in a relevant subject area with concentration in GIS or significant experience relevant to the position
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience using and applying GIS in a library environment

Demonstrated familiarity with ArcGIS 10 or 10.1 GIS desktop and Microsoft Excel software

Experience building GIS web services

Experience with ArcGIS server 10

Experience with the ESRI Geoportal or other server based metadata catalog

Experience creating and maintaining appropriate geospatial metadata

Experience with the preservation of geospatial data

Experience managing a geospatial imagery collection (scanned maps, aerial photos, remotely sensed imagery, etc.)

Experience with data visualization tools, software and concepts as related to geospatial information

Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision, to analyze situations effectively, to use judgment appropriately, and to organize workflow.

Ability to communicate and work effectively with faculty, students, staff, and public. Strong service orientation required. Experience working as part of a team.

Flexibility and ability to adapt to rapid change

Strong written and oral communication skills, with interest in continuing education in geospatial technology
Salary Range
$3,185.00 - $4,060.88 per month
