Job Summary:

Directs, manages, and administers the work of the Systems Section within the Pollak Library. Collaborates with administration, faculty, and staff to envision and guide library information technology services, as well as the library's digital initiatives. Reports to the University Librarian, develops and communicates a shared vision which includes collaboration, excellence and innovation working within the university's computing environment. Will demonstrate a command of emerging trends in scholarly information and digital libraries as well as technology. Provides user support, performs initial assessment and research on all user issues, and resolves a wide range of technical problems, often of the highest complexity, with a diverse constituency of library users, both in-house and remote. Partners with faculty and staff across campus and throughout the CSU. Important partners include the CSUF Information Technology Division, the CSUF Academic Technology Center, the CSUF Faculty Development Center, and the System-wide Library Initiatives group at the CSU Chancellor's Office. Ongoing technology-related projects include charting a course in the emerging world of digital resources and collections; providing access to electronic services; evaluating, designing and implementing efficient and effective discovery tools for library users; and developing technology strategies to enhance the Library’s presence in the teaching and learning process. Acts independently within functional organizational policies guidelines. Consults with executive management and administration on department and divisional activities. Responsible for setting department strategy and accomplishing divisional objectives. May serve as a prime contact and brief executive management on critical issues. May serve as spokesperson on sensitive issues. May be required to formulate operational policies, develop operational budget, administer policy, etc. Other duties as assigned

Essential Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in a related area. Three or more years of experience directing the work of technical staff; experience supervising and evaluating personnel, individually and in teams; demonstrated ability to successfully balance multiple assignments and projects. Demonstrated experience directing information technology projects, preferably using project management techniques. Extensive experience with large, content-rich web sites including knowledge of best practices and standards, etc. Previous experience working in a library. Familiarity with one or more open source programming languages and facility with Unix/Linux server environment; experience as administrator on Windows Server 2003/2008 and Unix/Linux server environments including web and database hosting; familiarity with web services and xml data. Ability to analyze, implement and promote evolving technologies. Excellent customer service skills; Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to interact effectively in a multicultural environment within and outside the Library. Knowledge of LDAP, Shibboleth, proxy servers or other authentication systems; currency with evolving library technology.

Preferred Qualifications:  

Master’s degree from an accredited university in Library or Information Science or equivalent degree in a relevant information technology field. Experience working in an academic library Experience with server setup and maintenance, information security analysis and information assurance.
