The Executive Director of Digital Scholarship Services (DSS) is part of Fondren Library's executive team, responsible for the oversight and management of scholarly communications, the institutional repository, the Digital Media Commons, the Kelley Center for Government Information & Microforms, and the GIS/Data Center. The Executive Director of DSS will work with faculty on digital projects and collaborate in securing grant funding to support digital library and digital humanities research. Serving as the Principal Investigator on grants, the Executive Director will be responsible for the overall management of grant-funded activities in DSS. The position may occasionally involve collaborative teaching with faculty for Rice courses that address the use of digital technologies in scholarship. 

Education Required

Master's degree in any field plus at least a bachelor's degree in an information science field (e.g. computer science or MLIS) OR a PhD. 
Experience may not be substituted for the education requirement 

Experience Required
 
Must have at least ten years of experience in working with and managing digital library projects and intiatives. Must have a demonstrated track record of managing grant-funded activities. Some experience delivering public presentations to international audiences. Some experience in teaching college-level workshops or courses in digital humanities or digital libraries. 
Education may not be substituted for the experience requirement. 
 
Other Skills Required
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrated planning, organizing and project management skills
- Proficiency with with multimedia software
- Leadership skills and an ability to reach consensus with diverse constituencies in a rapidly changing environment
- The ability to strategically consider research library directions and work with the library's executive team to articulate future directions 

Education Preferred

PhD. 

Experience Preferred

- Experience working in a research library and supporting university faculty with their research that involves digital technologies.
- Experience in digital humanities and working with technologies used to support digital humanities scholarship.
- Experience writing articles for publication. 
License/Certification Preferred 
Other Skills Preferred - Proficiency working with the DSpace institutional repository platform
- A demonstrated understanding of scholarly communications issues, including open access and copyright options
