The Library at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invites applications for a 12-month, tenure-track Emerging Technologies Librarian. The successful candidate will be responsible for effective librarianship, scholarship, and service. Specific responsibilities will include:

Emerging Technologies: Identify, evaluate, and promote current and emerging best practices in the application of web and digital technologies; take a leading role in the planning, implementation, and maintenance of innovative web and digital services and resources to improve teaching and learning effectiveness at TCNJ Library (e.g., virtual reference, social media, mobile computing, content management systems, open source applications, interaction design). Foster initiatives by providing expertise and guidance for library staff as they integrate web and digital technologies into new services and operations. Work collaboratively with others on the design and support of the Library’s web site and web services using the most up-to-date web design and applications technology. Work collaboratively with librarians to develop, test, and implement instructional tools and other digital library initiatives. Promote and support usability testing and assessment of new and existing services. 

Additional Responsibilities: As liaison to the Interactive Multimedia Program and possibly other subject areas, depending on library needs and applicant's expertise, provide in-depth reference, subject-specific instruction, and collection development. Provide general reference and Library instruction. Some evening and weekend duties required. Plan and carry out a sustained and respectable body of scholarship as outlined in the Library Disciplinary Standards. Serve on Library and institutional committees.

Qualifications:
Required: Master’s degree accredited by the American Library Association and awarded by the time of appointment. Working knowledge of the principles and practices of web design and development, including applications and scripting languages, such as the Adobe suite, HTML5, or PHP. Working knowledge of a content management system, such as WordPress. Working knowledge of other library-related technologies, such as streaming media and digitization, and current programming languages, such as XML or SQL. Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Initiative, flexibility, and a strong service orientation essential.

Preferred: Experience creating enhanced services through implementation of innovative user-centered solutions, and integrating technologies such as social networking, virtual reference, mobile technologies, and other Web 2.0 applications. Advanced degree or equivalent experience in instructional technology, digital art, or interactive multimedia. Professional experience in an academic library setting. Reference and instruction experience.

TCNJ is located within an hour, by train, of NYC and Philadelphia. The College's campus is set on 289 tree-lined acres in suburban Ewing Township and is known for its natural beauty. TCNJ has 39 major buildings, including a library recently rated the 4th-best in the nation by the Princeton Review. TCNJ Library is a five-story, 135,000 square-foot facility that serves as an intellectual, cultural, and social center for the College. In addition to housing traditional library collections and services, the building provides 26 group study rooms, two instructional computer labs, a cafe', a late-night study area, and a 105-seat multi-purpose auditorium. The Library's collections consist of approximately 600,000 volumes that have been selected by faculty and subject specialist librarians to support course offerings of the college and to provide a broad representative collection of titles across many disciplines. The library has access to over 60,000 periodical titles, which are available in a variety of formats: print, online, and microfilm/microfiche.

Appointment will be at the rank of Librarian III or Librarian II, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary ranges: Librarian III (Instructor in the Library) $53,149-82,388; Librarian II (Assistant Professor in the Library) $64,605-100,154. Full benefits package including TIAA/CREF. This position is available July 1, 2013.
