Cataloging Librarian I/II (San Mateo County Library, California)The San Mateo County Library System is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Cataloging Librarian I/II - Access Services. The ability to read, write and speak fluently in both English and Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin) or another Asian language is highly desired for this position. Under the direction of the Library Services Manager, the Cataloging Librarian performs original and copy cataloging of all library materials in various formats using nationally accepted cataloging tools. The Librarian hired for this position will be responsible for: Professional understanding and knowledge of cataloging procedures and principles including but not limited to: AACR2, RDA, LCRI, LCPS, LC classification, LCSH, MARC bibliographic and authority formats. Leadership, continuing development and implementation of San Mateo County Library’s word-based classification system, Findit! Maintaining an awareness of developments in general cataloging issues and standards, metadata standards, and librarianship in working with print, serials, digital, e-materials and evolving formats. Excellent communication skills (reading, writing, speaking) in English and in Asian languages. Managing special projects, including selection and maintenance of materials. Adapting to and embracing a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment, with experimentation in resource description practices and communication formats. Working independently, collaboratively, and in teams within the library. Utilizing excellent analytical, time management and problem-solving skills The current vacancy is full-time or part-time and is located in the Access Services Division at Library Administration.
