Known for its leadership in distance learning and its mission to serve, J.Y. Joyner Library, East Carolina University (ECU) seeks an enthusiastic, energetic and flexible colleague with a "customer first" philosophy to provide vision and guidance in delivery of excellent online library services to distance learning students and remote users. The successful candidate will work with other faculty and staff members to provide outstanding public service to the university community.Responsibilities: Reporting to the Head of Research and Instructional Services, the Online Learning Librarian plans, implements and assesses the delivery of library services to the university's distance learning students and other remote users; collaborates with campus faculty and staff in the marketing and integration of online learning materials into course curricula; investigates and applies new technologies to integrate information literacy and research skills into online courses; and provides online library instruction, virtual research assistance and online consultations. The Online Learning Librarian will help shape future library services to distance learning students and should understand the evolving needs of nontraditional students. Additionally, the Online Learning Librarian works collaboratively with the Research and Instructional Services Department to provide general reference services, teaches face-to-face instruction sessions, and conducts in-person consultations. The Online Learning Librarian will serve as a liaison to the Office of Emerging Academic Initiatives and Office of Continuing Studies. Some night and weekend work, as well as some travel, will be required.
Preferred Qualifications: Academic library reference experience. Instruction/training experience. Demonstrated knowledge of software and technology related to distance learning, such as course management software, e.g., Blackboard, and video conferencing software, e.g., Centra. Experience planning, implementing, and assessing a program of services; evidence of effective project management skills; experience with marketing and/or outreach. Familiarity with emerging educational technology. Understanding of learning theory and pedagogy, specifically with teaching nontraditional students. Interest in scholarly communication trends.
Rank, Salary and Benefits: The initial appointment is a one (1) year fixed-term contract; subsequent renewal may be for a multi-year fixed-term contract. Minimum salary of $43,500, with a comprehensive fringe benefits package.
Academic Library Services: Academic Library Services (ALS) supports the campus community's mission of teaching, research, and service. ALS is a member of the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (ASERL), has an operating budget of $7.6 million and a materials budget of $5 million, and employs a staff of 104, including 36 faculty members. Minimum Qualifications: Required Qualifications: ALA- accredited master's degree or international equivalent from an appropriately accredited institution in library or information science. Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Flexibility in adapting to change. Ability to work effectively with library faculty, staff and the user community. Strong commitment to helping students learn and succeed. Ability to collaborate with faculty and staff across campus. Familiarity with ACRL Standards for Information Literacy and Distance Learning Library Services. Demonstrated interest in ongoing professional growth.
