Job Description Isobel Craven Drill & William King Intern for the Archives


The Drill Intern works primarily processing archival record groups according to national and local standards. S/He may be requested to answer reference inquiries, assist with media collections, create web content, and assist with records transfers.


Responsibilities
# Processes paper and electronic records received from various campus units, as well as portions of photograph and media collections
# Creates finding aids using Encoded Archival Description
# Creates accession records in Archivists Toolkit
# Helps with the creation of MARC records
# Barcodes boxes for off-site storage
# Assists with research services and respond to reference inquires with training and assistance from University Archives staff.
# Other potential work may include creating an online exhibit or subject guide
# Other duties as assigned


Supervisory Responsibilities
# None


The King Intern will be engaged in a variety of reference and outreach activities. S/He will work on the Rubenstein Library Reference Desk and assist projects as assigned.


Responsibilities
# Answers University Archives reference questions, in conjunction with the Assistant University Archivist and University Archivist.
# Works a regular shift at the Rubenstein Library reference desk, monitoring the reading room and helping researchers working in the many areas of Rubenstein Library collections.
# Creates new online exhibits and guides about frequently researched topics, using Omeka and LibGuides.
# Migrates existing University Archives content, such as subject guides and online exhibits, into updated formats as part of an overhauled website (in Drupal).
# Participates in collaborative projects and activities, such as instruction and outreach events.
# Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:
Required: BA/BS and current enrollment in an accredited Public History, Archival Studies, MLS or IMLS program with a minimum of nine credit hours completed, or enrollment in a related graduate program combined with archival experience or training.

Required: Familiarity with research in primary sources; strong analytical, organizational, and writing skills; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated respect for privacy and confidentiality; capacity to take initiative and thrive in a rapidly changing environment; ability to work independently and as a member of a team; accurate and detail-oriented; demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer services.


Working Conditions
# Must be able to lift 40 pounds and unpack, shelve and shift large quantities of library materials;
# Must be able to work in an environment in which exposure to materials containing dust and mold is possible
# Frequent bending, crouching, stooping

Hiring Rate
$15.50 per hour. The position is not eligible for University fringe benefits or moving, housing, or relocation expenses.


Hours
The Drill internship is a temporary, part-time position available 19.5 hours per week between June 2013 - May 2014. The King internship is a temporary, part-time position available 19.5 hours per week between September 2013 - May 2014.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Work requires current enrollment in an ALA accredited Master of Library Science program and completion of one semester's work which should include basic courses in reference and technical services.

Experience
None required. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
