Director of Research Data Management

The Virginia Commonwealth University Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of Research Data Management. The successful candidate for this newly created position will lead the Libraries' research data management initiative to support researchers across Virginia Commonwealth University. The Director participates in related library and campus committees and ad hoc groups. The successful candidate will join a culturally and academically diverse faculty of the highest caliber.
Qualifications:  Required: ALA-accredited graduate degree or accredited graduate degree in another appropriate discipline. Three years of related work experience. Experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU. Able to design, plan, and implement complex projects. Excellent interpersonal skills for building relationships across the university.

Preferred: Undergraduate degree in the biological, life, or physical sciences. An entrepreneurial attitude to developing library services and resources. Demonstrated knowledge of: information-seeking and use behaviors; structure of knowledge, primary research tools, publishers and vendors; and the research and teaching approaches in one or more broad health or life sciences disciplinary areas. Demonstrated understanding of how research data is generated, structured and used. Knowledge of trends in data management, data curation and e-science in a university research environment. Knowledge of metadata schemas and discipline specific ontologies as well as subject repositories of open data useful for researchers. Relevant work experience in an academic environment. Successful experience working in a collaborative environment. Experience supervising librarians and/or staff in the provision of library services.
