The LSU Law Center Library invites applications for an entry-level, full-time, tenure track, assistant/associate level position of Metadata Librarian and Archivist.

The LSU Law Center is a top 100 law school located on the beautiful main campus of LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The school draws its students from Louisiana and throughout the United States and has a strong tradition of academic excellence dating from its founding more than a century ago. LSU Law is the only law school in the United States at which all graduates receive a dual degree that reflects the mixed civil and common law tradition of Louisiana and the preparation of LSU Law students for practice or service in the global, national, and state arenas.

The Metadata Librarian and Archivist manages the library's cataloging operations and archival collections. In addition, this position will be responsible for participating in the management and development of the library's institutional repository. As a member of the library's Technical Services Department, the Metadata Librarian and Archivist will work collaboratively with other faculty and staff to provide access to the library's collections. Cataloging responsibilities include original and copy cataloging of materials in all formats according to national standards, management of the authority file, database maintenance, compilation of catalog statistics, and supervision of copy cataloging. Archival responsibilities include acquisition, description, preservation, security of and provision of access to the library's archival collections. Institutional repository responsibilities include planning, organizing, and presenting digital content from the institution's historical record.

Requirements: ALA accredited Master of Science Library degree or equivalent;; ability to function in a collegial, teamwork-oriented environment with a strong service orientation; self-motivated, with excellent attention to detail and superior organizational and analytical skills; strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally, and in a timely manner; ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member; availability to work nights and weekends, as required.

Preferred qualifications include relevant cataloging and archival experience; knowledge of cataloging practices and awareness of RDA; knowledge of archival practices; familiarity and expertise with SirsiDynix Symphony; and a working knowledge of at least one major Continental European language, preferably French.

The salary for the fully qualified applicant is competitive and commensurate with degree and experience qualifications. This position carries with it library faculty rank and status.
