Position Focus:
The Public Health and Geographic Information System (GIS) Librarian will provide vision and strategic leadership for the development of innovative programs to support the research, teaching, academic computing, and service missions of the Yale School of Public Health (YSPH).  Major responsibilities will include innovation in information management, development of new programs, and the further development of already established service roles relating to the information needs of students and faculty in the School of Public Health. The Librarian will develop, expand and support geospatial information expertise among Medical Center GIS users. This position reports to the Associate Director of the Medical Library and the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, School of Public Health.

Required Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited Library school. In selected instances, a post-graduate degree in a related discipline may be required or substituted for an MLS. Appointment to this rank is limited to two years at which time it is expected that the individual will develop necessary requirements to meet expectations of performance at the Librarian 2 level.

Required Skills and Abilities:

Advanced degree in a related field and relevant professional experience may be substituted for an MLS degree. Appointment to Librarian 2 requires at least 2 years of professional experience and achievements; Librarian 3 requires at least 5 years of experience and professional achievements.
Familiarity with geospatial methods, spatial data formats and models, and spatial statistics, particularly with regard to applications in epidemiology and public health.
Strong public service orientation; excellent analytical, organizational, management, oral and written communications; strong interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to work collegially, cooperatively, and independently with varied groups in a complex organization and function collaboratively in a rapidly changing team environment.
Innovative, resourceful, and flexible. Knowledge of information technology.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Familiarity with:
Geocoding, aggregation and analysis of health data (and associated federal requirements for protection of such data), including Geographically Weighted Regression and Interpolation.
ArcGIS Desktop 10.x, R Statistical Package.
GeoDa/OpenGeoDa, QGIS, PostGIS, Gephi, or Google Refine.
2. Proficiency in one or more of the following: Python, SQL, XML.
