Description

The University Library seeks a motivated, collaborative, and service-oriented Digital Preservation Archivist (open rank, non-tenure track faculty: options are: Librarian Instructor, Librarian Assistant Professor, Librarian Associate Professor see below for details) to provide leadership and expertise in digital preservation. This includes working with the archivists, librarians, and staff across the University to manage the long-term preservation of digital materials for all collecting areas and handling materials in all formats.

Responsibilities Include:

 

  • Establish and refine policies, procedures, and best practices for the acquisition and long-term preservation of permanent digital materials.
  • Train faculty and staff around processes and procedures around acquisition, appraisal, arrangement and description of permanent digital records.
  • Train faculty and staff on the use of the digital preservation system and offer ongoing support.
  • Manage and maintain the digital preservation system and Archive It web archiving account.
  • Collaborate with archivists to identify, capture, and revise web and social media content in accordance with the collection development policy.
  • Work with the University and University Archivist to implement procedures to capture permanent born digital archival content across the University as per the University System of Georgia’s records retention schedule.
  • Advise faculty archivists, librarians and content creators on digital content lifecycle issues, strategies and tools for digital content preservation, preservation implications of using innovative tools and processes for record development, and other initiatives related to collections and data.
  • Work with archivists to identify digital materials on physical media for selection, extraction, and transfer to the digital preservation system.
  • Supervise students and/or temporary employees as needed.
  • The position serves as a member of the library faculty (12-month, non-tenure track), holds faculty rank, and is expected to participate in service activities as outlined in the University Library’s faculty guidelines.
