The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History invites applications for the position of Head of Digital Collections. This exciting position will play a key role in the museum’s efforts to grow and expand the impact of its digital collections through planning, project management, and collaboration. 

The person in this position will: 

  • Lead the development of strategies for digitizing and documenting the museum’s collection of 1.8 million objects and 3 shelf-miles of archival materials. 

  • Coordinate digitization activities, working closely with curatorial and collections departments, vendors, and other stakeholders. 

  • Develop standards and policies for the creation, management, and preservation of digital assets. 

  • Manage a team of talented staff across digital collections disciplines. 

Qualified candidates will have experience implementing and developing digitization and digital access strategies for collections in a museum, archive, library, or similar setting; ability to manage staff and multiple projects; and knowledge of the legal, ethical, and community rights and issues involved in providing access to historical materials. Please refer to the job announcements listed below for specific information as you prepare your application.
