Required Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree and 2 years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience engaging in artificial intelligence technologies and tools related to information architecture and discovery.
Direct experience with a range of generative artificial intelligence tools, including an understanding how the models work, and a critical appreciation for their strengths and limitations in relation to library standards, information technologies and data privacy.
Proven project management and experience developing policies and procedures.
Experience with library-led instruction and pedagogy.
Demonstrated ability to work with faculty and staff with a range of attitudes and beliefs about AI and its impact on learning.
Job Description:
Summary
The Iowa State University Library is seeking applications for an AI Instruction Librarian II. This 2-year term position will provide leadership in developing educational materials on AI tools, instruction, research support, and disciplinary research skills through consultations, workshops, course-related instruction and campus-level networks. The AI Librarian will also continue to develop and administer the Learning Lab and provide continued support for the AI Minor.
The successful candidate will have a customer-service focus, be skilled in organization and time management, possess the ability to interact effectively with library staff and the university community, and work independently as well as collaboratively in a rapidly changing, team-based environment.
Key Responsibilities
Regular assessment of generative AI tools and their impact on learning and information technologies.
Contribute to AI and teaching knowledge, skills, and professional development of the broader Research and Instruction team to ensure complementary skill-sharing and support.
Integrate emerging AI technology demonstrations into classroom teaching and research instruction.
Develop online guides, tutorials and modules to support independent learning on responsible and ethical AI use.
Contribute to the ongoing evaluation and piloting AI services, providing strategic recommendations for library instruction and operations.
Level Guidelines
• Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals
• Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues
• Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems
• Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests
• May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff
• May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity
• Provides guidance to students
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
This is an initial two-year term position, with expectation for renewal based on availability of funding.
