The Opportunity

The John C. Hitt Library at the University of Central Florida (UCF) seeks a collaborative and forward-thinking Scholarly Communication Assistant Librarian to join our Digital Scholarship Department in the Digital Strategies, Impact, & Visibility division. This 12-month, non-tenure track position leads campus efforts to support ethical, inclusive, and open research practices. The successful candidate will bring strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively across campus units, along with expertise in scholarly communication areas such as open access publishing, copyright, licensing, and research data management. With a deep commitment to open knowledge infrastructures, they will promote responsible research dissemination and engagement with open publishing platforms and practices. 

 

Responsibilities:  

  • Provide consultation and support to students, faculty, and staff on scholarly communication practices for research, teaching, and learning. 
  • Advocate for open access initiatives and equitable publishing models across campus. 
  • Develop and deliver workshops, seminars, and training on topics such as open publishing, copyright, data management, and emerging scholarly communication practices. 
  • Create and maintain educational resources including research guides, videos, and tutorials to support the campus community. 
  • Monitor trends and developments in the field to inform programming, outreach, and strategic initiatives. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in library and/or information science, or terminal degree in relevant field, from an accredited institution by time of hire.
  • Demonstrated understanding of scholarly communication, including areas such as open access publishing, copyright, licensing, and research data management. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing and delivering instruction, training, or outreach to different audiences, including faculty, students, and staff. 
  • Experience leading or contributing to the development and implementation of institutional open access and scholarly communication initiatives. 
  • Knowledge of current trends and issues in open knowledge infrastructures and scholarly communication.
