Introduction and Purpose
OCLS is seeking proposals for the creation of an online website/content management system.
Obituaries traditionally contain valuable genealogical and historical information that is essential to a community’s heritage. With the dramatic decrease in the number of obituaries published through traditional means due to the financial expense for the bereaved family, and with the severe reduction in the amount of information contained in those that are published, communities are losing vital knowledge that helps future generations understand their heritage.
The EPOCH (Electronically Preserving Obituaries as Cultural Heritage) project will provide a service to the community, in that it will serve as a depository of information that will be held for future generations of researchers and genealogists. Family and friends of the deceased can submit detailed obituaries as a tribute to their loved ones, and in doing so help build a meaningful history of the residents of the community. With the ability to upload photos, videos and other items, a multidimensional portrait of an individual and their contributions to the community will be created.
Deadline for submission of RFP is March 18, 2013.
