REQUIRED:
-- Master's degree from an American Library Association accredited library school or equivalent combination of advanced degree and relevant experience.

PREFERRED:
-- Substantial management/supervisory experience in a team environment, preferably in technical services/collection development of a large academic/research library, scholarly publisher, or vendor.
-- Substantial experience in e-resource management, licensing, acquisition, and management of e-content.
-- Familiarity with trends and practices in serials and electronic resources acquisitions, cataloging/metadata.
-- Experience in developing and managing consortial relationships and participating in vendor negotiations for consortial agreements.
-- Experience with electronic library resource management / knowledgebase systems, OpenURL linking technologies, or authentication mechanisms, preferably experience with Ex Libris' library systems products such as Verde, SFX, Aleph, Primo, and Alma.
-- Experience configuring, managing, or trouble-shooting web-based library resources.
-- Demonstrated analytical problem solving skills and initiative. 
Duties/Responsibilities Under the guidance of department director, the Manager leads the development of e-resource licensing and acquisitions planning and operations for the Libraries. Specifically, the Manager:
--- Maintains awareness and applies knowledge of current technologies, trends, and best practices in electronic resource licensing, acquisition, discovery, scholarly communication, and the publishing industry to meet end-user expectations of electronic resource services.
--- Maintains knowledge of developments in acquisition and electronic resources management systems and implement new technologies to improve efficiencies in management workflows, as well as processes that integrate e-resource discovery, access, and delivery processes for faculty, researchers, and students.
--- Contributes to Library-wide initiatives that advance the Libraries' strategic programs and operational excellence, including implementation of Ex Libris' Alma.
--- Contributes to developing the strategic direction for department and division by setting short and long term goals, planning, leading, or contributing to departmental and Libraries-wide priorities, and engaging staff, constituents, and stakeholders.

- Provides overall management and supervision of the E-Resource Management unit:
--- Hires, supervises, coaches and develops eight full-time ERM unit staff members.
--- Promotes a creative and innovative approach to managing change that will foster creativity and productivity among staff.
--- Manages overall e-resource acquisition and licensing workflow, including activation and testing of e-resources in SFX/Alma knowledgebase and A-Z database listing.
--- In close cooperation with Collection Development staff and University counsel, facilitates the negotiation of access, pricing and other licensing terms with vendors, based on set principles and guidelines.
--- Participates in the advisory function that oversees the development, evolution, and maintenance of guidelines for standard license terms.
--- Participates in collection and reporting of usage statistics and e-resource assessment in coordination with related collection development and data management units.
--- Maintains awareness of trends and best practices in e-resource acquisitions and access, applying them where appropriate.

- Forges strong relationships with staff throughout the department, Libraries, University, and vendor/publishing industry to ensure robust access to electronic resources for Libraries and its users. Specifically, the Manager:
--- Develops and implements policies, standards, goals and procedures to improve workflow in conjunction with other units in the department, Collection Development, Data Management and Access department, and other units and departments across the Libraries.
--- Works with Libraries' Data & Technology staff to manage the EZProxy authentication service.
--- Cultivates effective relationships with vendors.
--- Communicates e-resource news & updates to library staff.

- Contributes to the profession through scholarship and service to support achievement of continuous appointment. Specifically, the Manager:
--- Participates in professional contribution and development activities through publication, committee work, and presentation at the national level.
--- Participates in library-wide activities or projects through service on library and university committees and working groups. 
Program/Unit Description The University of Minnesota Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Manager, E-Resources Management unit. The ERM Manager ensures a strong planning and execution of contemporary methods of licensing, procurement, access, and delivery of Libraries' electronic resources, and leadership in developing future models for these functions within an evolving environment. The successful candidate will be an innovative manager who monitors trends and technologies in e-resource management arena, develops operational strategy, and leads collaborative initiatives with other departments in the Libraries and beyond to enhance discovery and delivery of electronic resources to Libraries' users.

The E-Resource Management unit (ERM) is one of four units in the Acquisitions and E-Resource Management (ARM) department within the newly-constituted Content & Collections Division. The division coalesces existing and emerging functions associated with the full life cycle of knowledge resources in support of the academic programs of the University. The ARM department is responsible for acquiring materials in all formats, negotiating license agreements working with the Collection Development Officer, activating/describing and maintaining access points to facilitate discovery of the Libraries' resources from an overall content and collections budget of approximately $14.7 million. The ERM Manager reports to the Director of Acquisitions and E-Resource Management department.
Within these contexts, the ERM unit (consisting of 8FTE), is responsible for initiating new licenses, ordering, receipting/activation, managing renewals and invoice payment, routine cataloging, and order maintenance of all electronic resources, including print component of print+online subscription packages. The ERM unit is also responsible for batch loading of e-books/EDI records, and the management of Demand Driven Acquisition (DDA) processes. The ERM Manager and unit will be instrumentally involved in the implementation of Ex Libris Alma in 2013, as the University of Minnesota is one of the largest institutions in the Alma North American Early Adopter Program.
