GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Access Services Librarian manages and provides the strategic direction for the Access Services Department, and oversees the main public service desk, circulation, stacks maintenance, course reserves, and interlibrary loan.
The librarian develops departmental goals and objectives in support of the mission of the library and the university; creates, implements, and evaluates departmental policies and procedures to meet user needs and expectations;
and ensures the public service desk is fully staffed and the staff is trained to provide a positive user experience. The librarian coordinates with the university's information technology department and the Minuteman Library Network to implement and update access services-related tools, systems, and technologies.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
The librarian is responsible for hiring, supervising, training, developing, and evaluating full-time, and part-time non-exempt staff and a cohort of student assistants.
EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the daily operational management, and development, implementation, and evaluation of the Access Services Department's services.
- Supervises, schedules, trains, participates in hiring, and evaluates the department's full-time and part-time staff, and student assistants.
- Serves as liaison to the Financial Aid Office and authorizes payment for all work-study students assigned to the library. Coordinates with library administrative manager on student contracts.
- Resolves issues involving scheduling and coverage of public services areas, keeps track of work-study pay records, and keeps the Dean informed about any staffing issues.
- Responsible for overseeing, coordinating, developing, supervising, implementing, and evaluating circulation, course reserves, and interlibrary loan services.
- Creates and supports a welcoming and inclusive department and user experience.
- Creates a positive team environment that fosters collegiality and innovation. Mentors and develops staff talent and engages staff in collaborative strategic planning, decision making, and delivery of user-centered services.
- Supervises work related to stack maintenance including the shifting of collections, shelf reading, inventory projects, special projects, and participation in the weeding process.
- Aligns departmental metrics and uses data and assessment techniques to evaluate and improve department's services.
- Prepares annual report on departmental activities and contributes Access Services related data for annual library surveys.
- Represents the library on appropriate campus, Minuteman Library Network, and other relevant committees, working groups, meetings, and conferences.
- Maintains current knowledge of trends and best practices as they relate to the department.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or required to meet department and university goals and objectives.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work primarily occurs on site in the Whittemore Library on the Framingham State campus. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
- Supervisory and training experience.
- Familiarity with online public access catalogs, ILL functions, basic copyright law, and policies and procedures related to public services.
- Effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to deliver and prioritize excellent customer services.
- Sensitivity to working in a diverse work environment.
- Ability to solve problems effectively and exercise good judgement.
- Adaptable and flexible with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to function both as a team member and team leader.
- Proficient with computers and Access Services related technologies.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position in the Massachusetts State College Association (MSCA) bargaining unit at a librarian rank commensurate with experience and credentials and in accordance with Appendix O of the MSCA contract (http://mscaunion.org/day-and-dgce-contracts/). The anticipated starting salary range is $60,000-70,000 at Assistant or Associate Librarian ranks.
