Political Papers Digital Archivist
Description
Under the supervision of the Collections Management and Processing Unit Head, the Political Papers Digital Archivist is responsible for processing born-digital materials in congressional and gubernatorial political papers collections in accordance with professional archival standards and best practices. This project includes arrangement and description of born-digital materials; determining and applying restrictions needed to comply with applicable regulations; migration of files from legacy digital storage media such as CDs and floppy disks; and creation of SIPs for ingest into Special Collections’ digital preservation system, Archivematica. The Archivist’s primary project will be processing approximately 36.5 TB of born-digital materials in the papers of former U.S. Representative and Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson. The Archivist will work in coordination with other processing archivists to create a finding aid for the collection. The Archivist contributes to the work of the Special Collections Division and will serve as a member of the Processing Team, engaging in team projects and professional development activities, and may also collaborate with other Libraries staff in the development and revision of digital preservation policies and best practices. This is a two-year term position, with the possibility of extension for a third year. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in library science, information studies, digital humanities, or related field with a specialization or significant coursework in archives. Candidates who will earn their degree by August 2025 are encouraged to apply.
- Coursework (either as part of a degree program or professional development) related to digital archiving
- Experience with digital forensics and preservation tools and/or systems
- Experience processing born-digital archival materials
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with an archival content management system such as ArchivesSpace
- Digital Archives Specialist (DAS) certificate from the Society of American Archivists
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of standards and best practices for archival processing, including a familiarity with DACS and PREMIS
- Excellent written communication skills
- Ability to work independently
