The Hunt Library at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) invites applications for the position of Open Systems Librarian to join a dynamic team serving a diverse population of residential and online students and faculty.  This collaborative and forward-thinking position will work closely with ERAU faculty and researchers to showcase, archive, and enrich the open access scholarship of our community.

The successful candidate will join the Hunt Library https://huntlibrary.erau.edu/, serving Daytona Beach and our Worldwide Campus of online students, working regular business hours.  Hunt Library is a forward-thinking, technologically advanced library organization serving a dynamic university with a growing research focus. Hunt Library utilizes Digital Commons, Digital Commons Data, Pressbooks, and Elsevier’s Pure to showcase the open research and open educational materials of the university to a global audience. This professional staff position will join the Scholarly Communication department, and report to the Assistant Director for Scholarly Communication.

Job Description:

The Open Systems Librarian will join a highly motivated team of four librarians committed to supporting open access, and enhancing discovery, access and delivery of ERAU’s scholarship, creative works, data, and more. The librarian will provide technical support for our suite of scholarly communication platforms, and interoperability with other university systems. In addition, the Open Systems Librarian will lead the way in actively identifying, evaluating, and, as necessary, deploying new technologies and tools to improve library services, further process automation, and respond to user needs. The successful candidate will be comfortable collaborating with technical and non-technical partners and be able to work independently and in teams. The position requires rigorous attention to detail, initiative, the ability to manage competing projects, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and good communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintains applications and automated workflows that support scholarly communication services, including APIs and web services.
  • Primary liaison between Scholarly Communications, the Electronic Library Services department, and university IT
  • Has a central role in open access digital assets management for materials housed in the university repository systems
  • Provides one-on-one training for members of the university community, and technical workshops as needed and appropriate
  • Contributes to the policy developments of the department in support of our OA efforts
  • Supports the collection and distribution of statistics in support of the repositories and Scholarly Communication initiatives
  • Supervise a small number of student workers who assist with data entry, technical projects, and general departmental support. 
  • Identify, review, and report on new technologies and systems in support of Research and Scholarly Communication

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in LIS/IS, IT, Data management, Database systems, or related field
    • OR Bachelor’s Degree in an Information Technology field plus 2-3 years of experience in Higher Education Systems, Libraries, or Digital Archives
  • Understanding of open access
  • Experience with vendor-supported software and enterprise-wide systems, preferably repository or database systems
  • Experience with APIs and/or systems integrations
  • Some knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • Demonstrated experience with collaborative teams and cross-unit support

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with digital preservation, digital repositories, and/or digital archiving
  • Experience with bepress Digital Commons
  • Understanding of open data and open research and its role in academic research
  • Demonstrated experience with enhancing or supporting digital accessibility
  • Experience in academic libraries, or an academic research support unit
  • Experience with Library Information Management Systems, and/or Learning Management Systems
  • Experience with web development or basic code to support automation of workflows
