Library Technology Specialist - MakerSpace

Job Summary/Basic Function
Reporting to Manager – MakerSpace, Apply knowledge of Windows and MacOS to provide installation, configuration, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of software and hardware for the MakerSpace including CAD computers, Mac Lab, and specialized media technology spaces. Provide technical support for the MakerSpace. Provide technical support for Library Technology as needed. Supervise, assist, and train Team Leaders and Student Technology Assistants (STA) in all aspects of desktop, classroom technology, and multimedia equipment support.
Help MTSU students, staff, and faculty properly use media and fabrication software, technology, and design equipment and hardware.
Responsible for delivering training to all Library Technology student workers and Library Technology full-time staff who do not regularly work in the MakerSpace (3-5) on the use and troubleshooting of all MakerSpace equipment, available technology, and software, including but not limited to multimedia equipment and spaces, laser cutter/etcher, computer numeric controlled routers (CNC), vinyl plotter, dye sublimation printer, Fused Filament 3D printers, Photopolymer resin printer, sewing machine, embroidery machine, hand tools, power tools, VR (virtual reality) headsets, micro controllers (Arduino), microcomputers (Raspberry Pi), soldering, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, and Autodesk applications.
Coordinate, track, and facilitate training for all Library Technology student employees working in the MakerSpace (25-30) and Library Technology full-time staff who do not regularly work in the MakerSpace (3-5).
Hire and onboard student technology assistants (STA) for Library MakerSpace (25-30). Schedule Team Leaders and STAs for MakerSpace (25-30). Monitor and verify MakerSpace student hours worked and submit for payroll. Supervise, guide, and mentor Team Leaders and STAs during work shift in Makerspace. Supervise STAs and Team Leaders in Library Technology Services (LTS) and EIC/Ref service points as needed or assigned by Supervisor (25-30).
Assist in providing curriculum enrichment and informational services to classes who visit the MakerSpace. Assessment of fines to student accounts including interpreting library policies to patrons and resolving discrepancies. Remain current on technology trends, tools, and support methods for new technologies adopted for use within the library public spaces, MakerSpace, Mac Lab, and classrooms. Document support interactions in campus work order system. Computing environment includes servers, multiple platforms, classroom systems, multimedia equipment, and discipline specific equipment and software. Perform other duties as assigned and contribute to special projects. While the primary schedule for this position is 12:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday-Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, flexibility is required to support special shift projects and events.
Required Education
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Mathematics, Engineering, Multimedia Arts, Digital Design, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred. Note: An associate’s degree with five (5) years of experience as described below may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
Required Related Experience
Three (3) years of computer support experience with PC and/or Macintosh, including troubleshooting and maintenance. Experience with industry-standard business-class software packages required, preferably including spreadsheets, word processors, graphics, and presentations.
Two (2) years experience with fabrication equipment and tools required, preferably including electronics, small board computers, multimedia spaces, and 3D design applications.
Two (2) years of supervision and training experience required.
Desirable Related Experience
Professional experience as described above in a medium to large organization or higher education environment preferred. Experience with Android and iOS preferred. Experience with classroom equipment and related peripheral devices, including microtext machines, flat-bed scanners, and enterprise printers preferred. Two (2) years prior work experience in a library preferred. Experience with installation, service, and support of digital technology and audio/visual and multimedia systems preferred. Experience with the following software, technology, and equipment preferred: fused filament 3D printers, SLA Resin 3D printers, vinyl plotters, Laser etcher/cutters, computer numeric controlled routers (CNC), dye sublimation printers, sewing machines, embroidery machines, hand tools, power tools, robotic development equipment, electronic test equipment, micro controllers (Arduino), microcomputers (Raspberry Pi), and soldering, virtual reality (VR) headsets, and augmented reality (AR) headsets; 3D modeling software (AutoDesk AutoCAD, Blender, Meshmixer, Fusion 360, Sketchup Pro) and graphic design, video editing, and audio editing software (Adobe Creative Cloud Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier Pro, Audition); Audio/visual equipment including visual presenters, overhead displays, LCD projectors, TV monitors, speakers, and amplifiers; multimedia equipment including digital cameras, camcorders, digital and analog audio recording devices, podcasting equipment, and green screen equipment.
