Data Services Librarian
Description
The McGoogan Health Sciences Library seeks an innovative and collaborative Data Services Librarian to join a team of faculty education and research librarians. The Data Services Librarian coordinates and delivers the library’s research services for research data management, data curation, data visualization, and data literacy, and oversees the continued development of a portfolio of services that support UNMC researchers. They will liaise with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and researcher teams at UNMC. They will be enthusiastically supported by librarians who have complementary skills in data, research support, and information literacy areas.
As a member of the library’s Education & Research Services Department, they will also engage in liaison-led instruction, perform literature searches, and participate in outreach activities to support the department’s work. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Education and Research Services. As a member of the library faculty, the Data Services Librarian will participate in shared governance of the library, serve on library and university committees, and be actively involved in relevant professional organizations.
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Advanced degree in research-related field or master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution.
- At least one year of experience as a librarian in an academic or health sciences library.
- Knowledge of current tools, trends, and approaches in data services, including data preservation and curation, visualization, discovery and use of open data sets.
- Knowledge of the research data lifecycle, data management, data sharing practices, and data literacy concepts.
- Familiarity with research tools such as Python, R, SPSS, or STATA and ability to become proficient in additional tools.
- Commitment to demonstrating collegiality and fostering a collaborative, welcoming environment.
This is a full-time, 12-month position. This position is on-site in Omaha, with possible partial remote work flexibility. An advanced degree in research-related field or master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution is required. Library faculty participate in campus service and receive support to pursue professional development. Faculty pursuing promotion and tenure have additional scholarship and professional service requirements.
