Appalachian State University Libraries seeks two associate deans to support the dean and their colleagues in accomplishing our shared vision. These positions offer an opportunity for professionals who want to work closely with others to achieve difficult but important goals and objectives.
The Associate Dean for Learning and Research will support and supervise 3-5 coordinators of the libraries’ primary liaison teams and will also serve as the lead for a major operational objective: human resources.
The Associate Dean for Collections will support and supervise 3-5 coordinators of the libraries’ collection teams and will also serve as the lead for a major operational objective: budget & assessment.
The associate deans collaborate with the dean in the overall management of University Libraries, structuring resources to provide leadership for major organizational initiatives. Each will be responsible for the management, evaluation, and supervision of 3-5 coordinators and 2-4 staff who are direct reports. These associate deans will serve as members of multiple leadership groups and teams and will be key to removing obstacles and providing helpful, positive strategies for collaboration and outreach. Each associate dean will contribute to a culture that values openness, inclusion, innovation, and community.
Candidates for the role of associate dean should have significant and varied experience collaborating to accomplish goals with faculty, university students, staff, and/or community members. Their track record of experience using inclusive decision-making and management as a leader will be key. The Libraries will support their work with strong funding for professional travel and service, a group of hardworking team members, and technology and networking resources.
The minimum salary for an associate dean is $110,000 and will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Like other librarians and archivists at Appalachian State, both associate deans will be appointed to the faculty and must meet the criteria for appointment at the rank of associate or full professor with tenure (See Appalachian State University’s Faculty Handbook for more information).
