Description
The SJU Libraries seeks a service-oriented and collaborative librarian to serve as Sciences Librarian. The Librarian will be a part of the Research and Instruction team, providing research assistance, information literacy instruction, collection development, and outreach. The Librarian will be the primary contact for the School of Health Professions, which includes Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physician Assistant studies. The position will also serve as a co-liaison to the School of Nursing and Allied Health. The candidate will be primarily based at the University City campus.
- Serves as primary liaison to the School of Health Professions, and Biology and Chemistry, serves as co-liaison to the School of Nursing and Allied Health
- Serves as primary contact on Hawk Hill Campus for the School or Nursing and Allied Health
- Provide expertise on the libraries’ databases and resources, with particular attention to the health sciences
- Work collaboratively with faculty to integrate library resources into health sciences curricular and research programs, including promoting library resources and services, providing instruction, and assessing needs.
- Develops and conducts online and in-person instruction sessions, develops tutorials and research guides, and provides expertise in subject related tools and resources
- Coordinates and assists with liaison librarians offering instruction
- Monitor trends in health sciences librarianship and participate in relevant continuing education opportunities in both librarianship and health sciences disciplines or practices
- Provide support for comprehensive literature searching including evidence synthesis reviews and bibliometric analysis
- Provide general research assistance in accordance with the library's mission and user service guidelines
- Collaborates with colleagues in related subject areas and libraries to acquire materials. Participates in collection evaluation projects
- The Librarian will work closely with faculty to determine research and information needs.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- ALA-accredited degree (MLS, MSIS, or equivalent degree)
- Undergraduate or advanced degree in a health sciences or STEM field, second Master’s degree in a relevant academic discipline OR minimum three years of relevant professional experience in an academic, medical, or science library or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of the types of biomedical and scientific literature and its use by faculty and students
- Demonstrated ability to respond effectively to changing needs and priorities, showing initiative and flexibility
- Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, coordinate and implement projects and bring them to a conclusion in a timely fashion
- Proven commitment to excellent customer service
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
