About This Role:

Kansas State University Libraries is seeking a highly self-motivated, process-oriented, and detail-focused individual to join its Information Technology team as a Systems Administrator. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the Kansas State University Library's IT servers and systems, providing comprehensive support for the IT infrastructure. You will report to the Director of Information Technology and collaborate closely with other IT team members and specialists across the university.
We are looking for a candidate with strong technical and problem-solving skills, who can take initiative and work collaboratively across different organizational teams and program areas. The ideal candidate will have excellent critical thinking skills and be familiar with both Windows and Linux operating systems. They should demonstrate the ability to grow professionally and stay current with emerging technologies and concepts necessary for IT systems administration.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

·        Requires an associate degree and three to five years of relevant experience. This position may use an educational equivalency as determined relevant by a hiring manager.

Preferred Qualifications:

·        Working knowledge of a common, server-side scripting language, such as Python, PHP, Perl or Bash scripting.

·        Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, cloud computing or related field.

·        Experience with system (Linux) administration and DevOps, such as:

• SCM - Git/GitHub

• CI/CD - Jenkins, GitHub Actions

• OS - Ubuntu Linux

• Infrastructure Automation - DevOps patterns with Ansible, Terraform, Chef, Puppet

• Containers and Orchestration - Kubernetes/ECS, Docker, Flux, Rancher

• Security - SSO, SAML, Shibboleth, LDAP, OAuth

• AWS - EC2, RDS, EKS, AZs/Multi-region concerns

·        Other experience

• Programming in languages like Python, PHP, JS, Ruby, Perl, SQL • DBA - particularly MySQL

• General Application Administration (users, groups, application settings, licensing, etc.) for Slack/Github/Confluence/JIRA

·        Experience supporting libraries, specifically:

• Extending and supporting DSpace (Java and Angular) development and deployments

• Alma

• Archivematica

• Drupal

• bepress

·        Knowledge of Ubuntu Linux operating systems.

·        Knowledge of Windows Server operating systems.

·        Demonstrated experience implementing and supporting open-source applications.

·        Extensive experience in creating automation scripts and tying systems together using server-side scripting, server process automation, APIs and similar tools.

·        Familiarity with long-term storage options for archiving purposes.

·        Experience with cloud security practices.

·        Experience supporting a versioning system.

·        Experience supporting locally built, custom web applications.

·         Familiarity with development frameworks (Flask, Django).

·        Experience in automating administrative tasks (Ansible, AWS systems manager, etc.).

·        Ability and willingness to take initiative.

·        Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining close attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.

·        Excellent technical, analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

·        Ability and willingness to work both independently and within a team-oriented approach to achieve organizational goals, including the ability to share knowledge and collaborate across teams and program areas.
