Summary:

Reporting to and working with the Director of Library Technology and Knowledge Management, the Assistant Director of Library Technology coordinates the planning, implementation, and maintenance of library systems and services. Directs acquisition and maintenance of all computer hardware & software across the Temple University library system including staff & public computing, public printers & copiers, kiosks, scanners, lockers, etc. Interacts with all units in the libraries, with other departments across campus, and with vendors to gather requirements, develop specifications, test, and deploy all library systems and services. Provides leadership, oversight, and management for projects, assesses stakeholder needs and interface usability, prepares project specifications in collaboration with developer’s team and other staff. Supervises five full-time staff members including hiring, training, setting goals and priorities, assigning and monitoring work, approving leave requests and managing annual performance evaluations. Sets policy and accepts responsibility for the administrative tasks of the department.  Maintains in-depth knowledge of standards and best practices in the realm of information science, library-oriented platforms, and project management. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five (5) years’ experience managing library systems development and implementation. Experience with library systems including the Integrated Library System (Alma) and those to support interlibrary loan (Reshare/Illiad), course reserves (Leganto), special collections (Archives Space), discovery (Primo/Blacklight), and research support (LibGuides). Experience implementing library software and systems-related projects. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:

*  Excellent interpersonal skills along with the ability to interact with a diverse group of constituents both inside and outside the university.

* Supervisory skills.

* Understanding of web-based project design methods and practices.

* Ability to organize multiple projects and work in an environment including diverse groups of faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and students.

* Demonstrated creativity and strategic thinking with the ability to take initiative and the willingness to learn.

* Ability to make policy decisions when necessary, multi-task, set priorities, adapt to changes and meet deadlines.

* Familiarity with project management tools such as Jira and Confluence.

* Excellent project management and team leadership skills.

* Demonstrated ability to work in a highly collaborative environment and across multiple departments.

* Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred:  

* Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, Computer Science, Instructional Technology, or related field.

* Experience directing development and management of large websites

* Demonstrated applied understanding of ADA principles and guidelines

* Experience with metadata standards, such as Dublin Core, MODS, and OAI-PMH.

* Experience with User Experience assessment methodologies.

* Experience with Agile-style project management.

* Experience in an academic library setting.

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
