Job Description:
Texas State University Libraries is seeking a Library Night Supervisor for the Alkek Library. This position serves as the main point of contact for Alkek Library during evening and weekend hours. Responsibilities include providing supervision of student workers, general building safety, and operations during evening and weekend hours. The Library Night Supervisor also works with UPD and building security to ensures the safety and security of the Alkek Library. The position is a part of the library service team and is expected to staff the Ask Alkek service desk, provide basic reference, and technology assistance to library users.
Job Duties:
- Serve as main point of contact for building personnel on evenings and weekends as well as coordinate the evening operations of the Ask Alkek Desk.
- In conjunction with the security guard (when applicable), handle noise complaints and resolve conflicts as they arise.
- Provide exemplary customer service to patrons in person, by phone, by chat, or email regarding all aspects of Ask Alkek service.
- Coordinate service efforts with other service points in the building.
- Perform library circulation duties such as check out/in library materials; issue TexShare cards to current faculty, staff, and students; and download and import statistics from the library system to be used in generating statistical reports.
- Acts as night and weekend shift supervisor for student employees at the Ask Alkek Desk and TechSpots.
- Assist in identifying programming opportunities geared toward an evening audience.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.
- High school diploma or equivalent level of education.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
- Experience providing customer service.
- Ability to take charge in a stressful situation.
- Ability to supervise others effectively.
- Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office 365 and Teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of university and library policies.
- Experience working in a library environment.
- Experience working during off-hours.
Additional Information to Applicants:
This position will be required to work evenings and weekends based on organizational needs.
