Immersive Tech Librarian

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Immersive Technologies Librarian’s primary focus is instruction and outreach for the Mary Ann Mavrinac Studio X, a program and space for extended reality at the University of Rochester Libraries. They will work closely with the Assistant Director for Studio X to design, implement, and assess workshops and course projects related to XR in collaboration with faculty from across disciplines.
This is a temporary, 1-year appointment, with the possibility for extension and/or transition to a permanent position.
This is an on-site position located in Rochester, NY.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
XR Workshops and Programming: 25%
· Lead a wide-range of XR workshops for class sessions and for the broader UR community
· Provide opportunities for the campus community to learn about projects, assignments, research, and emerging trends in XR
· Mentor student-employees supporting Studio X programming
· Assess programming and activities to meet evolving needs of faculty and students engaged in XR
Outreach and Engagement: 25%
· Mentor the Studio X marketing team, including social media content
· Develop outreach events, including Pop-Ups, collaboration with campus partners, etc.
· Mentor students in the execution of events students propose for Studio X, ex., Research Expo, Beat Saber Competition, student organization events, etc.
Professional Development: 25%
· Stay current on trends in XR, tools, and methodologies
· Learn and explore new and emerging technologies as needed
· Maintain good knowledge of existing exemplary work, projects, best practices, conferences, professional literature, and key players in XR and XR support
· Share key learning as appropriate with DS and RCL colleagues
XR Across the Curriculum: 25%
· Build relationships with key faculty with teaching interests in XR to explore potential programs and initiatives
· Consult with faculty interested in utilizing XR in their teaching
· Explore ways to offer consultation and one-on-one support services through Studio X
· Stay current on XR use cases for course integration
· Make recommendations for new XR experiences and collection development
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Experience and Skills
· Post-graduate degree in library and information science from an A.L.A.-accredited institution, or a current library science graduate student, or equivalent combination of education and experience
· Aptitude for and willingness to learn and explore new and emerging technologies
· Strong commitment to diversity
· Outstanding interpersonal skills and abilities
· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
· Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills
· Experience with digital scholarship, maker spaces, or other emerging technology groups or spaces
· Experience teaching
· Strong organizational skills
· Self-starter who is flexible, creative, and open to new challenges
Preferred
· Experience with XR tools and platforms
COMPENSATION/BENEFITS
Hourly Range: $24 - $26
This position is not benefits-eligible.
