AV Technician & IT Support Specialist
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The AV Technician & IT Support Specialist oversees AV at the Boston Athenæum. This position also helps maintain the Boston Athenæum’s desktop and laptop computer systems and assists the Manager of Information Technology and Associate Systems Administrator in managing the overall computer system.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for AV systems operation and maintenance. The Athenaeum has a large AV-equipped event space, and three smaller AV-equipped conference rooms.
Stays current on AV procedures, to include Zoom and Crestron firmware, application, and policy updates.

Solely responsible for AV for events.
Connects and disconnects equipment for events (microphones, spotlight, projectors, sound booth systems, etc.).
Operates the AV equipment during events (sound levels, recording, etc.) and troubleshoots AV system problems.
Monitors hybrid Zoom events.
Performs a sound check prior to the start of an event.
Acts as the primary contact for outside AV contractors, presenters, and the events department.
Maintains AV equipment and oversees any necessary repair.
Prepares AV recordings–including format conversions, editing, and addition of metadata and introductions–for upload to Vimeo, and archives recordings as appropriate.
Maintain computer and AV equipment inventory.
Provide documentation and training to staff as needed.
Provide desktop and laptop computer support (imaging, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and decommissioning).
Help with printer selection, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Help manage user accounts on various systems (Active Directory, Google Workspace, etc.).
Helps maintain server, network, and cloud infrastructure of all systems.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Typical schedule is 12-8pm, with two days remote as event schedule allows.
Work Saturdays (infrequent) as necessary.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Submit to and pass background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment verifications and Registry of Motor Vehicles (if applicable).
Three or more years’ professional experience in AV support.
Proficiency with audiovisual equipment.
Proficiency with audiovisual processing applications.
In-depth knowledge of Windows desktop operating systems (10/11).
Advanced PC troubleshooting and repairing skills (both hardware and software).
Experience with user and computer management (Microsoft Active Directory preferred).
Ability to instruct staff members on Microsoft Office and troubleshoot their problems.
Strong customer service skills with the ability to effectively communicate technology concepts to staff.
Able to learn new technologies quickly.
Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others in a professional manner.
Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 65 pounds, including monitors, computers, printers, and servers.
Ability to exercise good judgment, confidentiality, and discretion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred, but not required.
Knowledge of Crestron AV equipment and Zoom.
Familiarity with Linux.
Experience with Google Workspace -- administration a plus.
Experience with servers and network switches.
