Metadata Analyst: Full-Time and eligible for primarily remote.

 Department

This position is within FSU’s Department of Florida Virtual Campus (FLVC)

FLVC’s Library Services division provides information, training, tools, and other resources for library staff at the 28 state colleges and 12 public universities in Florida, encompassing more than 150 campus libraries across the state. Our services also include the Alma Integrated Library System (ILS) which provides the libraries with cataloging, circulation, electronic resources, analytics, and other library services to manage their collections.

Responsibilities

The position provides quality control to databases that are utilized by the Florida publicly funded institutions of higher education. The position also enhances the databases by retrieving and installing files containing student and bibliographic records. Analyzes and validates FLVC's library management system statistical data and reports to ensure their accuracy prior to publication to statewide college and university libraries.

Create and maintain web-based management reports used by library faculty and staff. Design and provide ad hoc reports based on library requests, for FLVC statistics or as needed for database analysis.

 

Retrieves and loads student and bibliographic records from colleges, universities and external vendor sources into the FLVC library management system databases, working directly with college and university staff to reconcile problems with the data as they occur. Monitors the FLVC database activity and uses judgment to avoid running cpu-intensive loads during high use periods by running the loads during slower times, evenings and weekends.

 

Works collaboratively as a member of the Data Quality workgroup. Other duties as assigned.

Searches, retrieves and analyzes online data as it relates to FLVC's library management system from external vendors and normalizes the data for inclusion into FLVC's statistical reporting tools, including Microsoft Excel. Works directly with third-party vendors to reconcile problems with their data when needed.

 

Performs work in support of business processes and projects, as assigned. Performs time- sensitive tasks and meets established deadlines; maintains effective communications with appropriate FLVC staff; maintains effective working relationships to ensure the success of the business processes and projects.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and two years' experience or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience. (Note: or a combination of post-high school education and experience equal to six years.)

Ability to obtain Security Awareness Training Certification

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of metadata formats such as MARC21 and Dublin Core
Knowledge of any analytics and reporting software.
