Description

Position Summary: JCCC's Billington Library is seeking a full-time librarian to coordinate the collection development for library materials and database subscriptions, including physical materials, OERs, and electronic resources.

Librarians at JCCC are faculty members of the Bargaining Unit, are eligible for a continuing contract after 3 years, and receive generous benefits -- including participation in the Kansas Public Employee Retirement System (KPERS).

Some specific position expectations are below.

Required Qualifications: 

COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT:
* Ability to curate academic collections and utilize DDA and Standing Order selection plans to promote diverse, inclusive, and relevant materials to a college’s curriculum and campus population’s interests.
* Ability to evaluate, select, and prioritize electronic database resources.
* Ability to assess collections by analyzing institutional data, usage statistics, and other metrics, to fulfill the library’s and the college’s mission, values, and student learning outcomes.
* Ability to maintain and cultivate contacts with the campus community, other colleges, and other libraries to advance library collection opportunities.
* Knowledge of Open Educational Resources (OERs) and their roles in library collections.

GENERAL:
* Knowledge of and experience with major trends in higher education, and community colleges more specifically.
* Commitment to professional development by keeping current in their respective area of librarianship.
* Ability to maintain faculty and librarian credentials as required by the college’s accrediting agencies.
* Ability to demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that result in clear communication of library, information literacy, and knowledge management principles to library users.
* Ability to fulfill all requirements as stated in college policies and procedures, including mandatory training.
* Ability to attend and participate in all required meetings and exercise stewardship in the use of college facilities and materials.
* Ability to submit information or materials related to their assigned duties as requested by college administrators or peers in a timely manner.
* Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and stakeholders from across the college and the community in order to create, preserve, and enhance important partnerships.
* Ability to provide support for both adjunct and full-time colleagues in the form of consultation and cooperation and to work as an effective team member.
* Ability to treat all members of the college community with dignity and respect demonstrating professional, courteous behavior and engage in constructive conflict resolution, when needed.
* 1+ years experience in a library.
* Proven success selecting physical and/or electronic library collection materials.
* Master's Degree in Information Science or Library Science, or similar degree from an American Library Association accredited program.
* Experience as an active member of a college community, including department, division, and college-wide committee service.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

* Experience with Ex Libris Library Management Suite (Rialto, Alma, Summon, etc.),Gobi Slips/Folders; additional materials selection softwares; and demand driven acquisition.
* Experience prioritizing materials budgets for print collection and electronic resources.
*Experience with Open Educational Resources and course reserves.
* Experience with academic shared governance.
* 3+ years experience in an academic library.
* Experience in a dedicated, full-time role in the areas of electronic resource management or collection development.
* Experience in a higher education setting.
