Here’s a Glimpse of the Job
Do you want to participate in the strategic development and design of the University Libraries’ access and discovery technologies? As the Discovery Services Librarian you will be responsible for the Libraries’ discovery systems, ensuring open and equitable access to the Libraries’ collections and services. You will collaborate with Digital Initiatives, TAMU Technology Services, Digital Collection Services, and other key stakeholders to ensure the continuous improvement of the Libraries’ Discovery Layers and Libraries’ Discovery Technology Portfolio. We need you to provide services in usability and user experience testing to provide feedback to the design and development of the Libraries’ discovery layers and search strategies. Opportunities to contribute:
Maintain knowledge of emerging technologies in the field of information access, discovery, and searching
Work with the Web Design Team and developers to build new search interfaces
Ensure continuous improvement of the Libraries’ Discovery Layers and Libraries’ Discovery Technology Portfolio
Provide recommendations on UI/UX for search and investigate search failures
Participate in scholarly activities and professional service for professional development
Incorporate new ideas and technologies into library services and programs
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Library Science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
No prior experience required
A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of information retrieval and evaluation models, academic library search engines, and WCAG and ADA web accessibility standards
Familiarity with resource management systems including EBSCO Discovery System administrative interface, and the library discovery environment
Experience with VuFund discovery layer and EBSCO Discovery Service
Experience with UX or usability testing and APIs
Understanding of HTML, CSS, or other web development languages
Minimum Posted Salary: $5,241.67 Monthly
