Director of Digital Collections (Librarian Director)
Description
The Librarian Director will direct the development and implementation of the University Library’s Digital Collections and associated projects supporting Texas A&M University Colleges, Schools, Agencies, and other educational institutions. The selected candidate will oversee the acquisition, development, and integration of technologies and systems that support the full spectrum of digital objects and services. Additional the Director will lead the operational decisions impacting the Libraries’ digital collections and digital collection development, as well as collaborating with Web & User Experiences, and Technology Services to validate, maintain, and develop integration points in Digital Asset Management Systems and other applicable applications. Required Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in Library Science
Ten years of related experience in a public, academic, or specialized library or archive
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational, and analytical skills
Familiarity with current digital technologies and proficiency in using a variety of computer software and systems
Ability to lead change and identify and implement new technologies, services, and processes
Project management skills
Preferred Education and Experience:
Familiar with various web-based technologies (e.g. XML, XSLT, Java, HTML5, epub, or CSS)
2 years of project management experience
Experiences working with digital publishing or institutional repository platform/software (e.g. Fedora, DSpace, Eprints, Digital Commons)
Familiar with image viewers and technologies (e.g. OpenSeadragon, Mirador, IIIF)
Knowledge of current metadata standards and understanding of metadata principles and practices
Experience with digital collections and exhibits
