Description
Commitment: Onsite, full-time (40 hours per week) Monday-Friday with flexibility. Expected start date is mid-January 2024 and the internship will run through mid-May 2024 (16 weeks total). Project Description: The NASA Archives preserves and provides access to historically significant materials relating to the NASA Agency’s history and organization. This opportunity is an onsite archival intern who will be responsible for performing processing of analog collections. In addition to processing textual collections, the intern will process and perform preservation activities relating to digital records in the collection. Finally, intern may assist staff with the appraisal and acquisition of historically significant materials. Skills needed: Current enrollment in an MLIS program is required. Understanding of archival theory, principles, and practices. Experience processing analog textual collections, performing holdings maintenance work on analog collections, and using archival description software. Understanding of processing and preservation of digital records. Knowledge of description standards including DACS and ISAD-G, as well as knowledge of the use of taxonomies and authority files for controlled vocabulary.
