Case Western Reserve University seeks a forward thinking, inclusive, and collaborative individual for the Technician Services Assistant (Term) position.
POSITION DESCRIPTION This two-year term Library Assistant 5 position will address the rare book cataloging backlog, in several subject areas, within the Special Collections of Kelvin Smith Library. Working in collaboration with team members from the Technical Services and University Archives & Special Collections teams, with occasional supervision and guidance from the team leaders for Technical Services, and University Archives & Special Collections, the Library Assistant will create brief bibliographic records for rare book materials. The Library Assistant will work with library staff to coordinate the receipt and handling of rare books, creation of copy catalog records, and will assist catalogers and other librarians in maintaining an accurate inventory of materials through all phases of work. The Library Assistant will be responsible for coordinating, processing, and copy cataloging Special Collections holdings ranging from the 16th to 20th centuries, alongside a small group of staff from the Technical Services team. Subject strengths within Kelvin Smith Library’s rare books collection include: history of science and technology, Renaissance humanism, wine and gastronomy, religion and theology, English and German literature, housing and urban development, and books about books.

KSL is home to the University Archives and Special Collections and manuscripts consisting of over 17,000 linear feet, the Kulas Music Collection, and the Freedman Center for Digital Scholarship which advances research by partnering with scholars and students to explore and develop new forms of scholarship. KSL is a member of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), OhioLINK, the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI), HathiTrust, and the Center for Research Libraries. In 2019 KSL was the recipient of the ACRL Excellence in Academic Libraries Award. QUALIFICATIONS Experience/Education: High school education with 6 years of related experience, or an Associate’s degree with 3 years of related experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with no experience required.
SALARY This position is a Library Assistant 5 with a minimum of $40,955. The salary will be offered to commensurate with qualifications and experience.
