Kent State University Libraries seeks a collaborative and forward-thinking librarian to join our Student and Research Success team as our Social Sciences and Assessment Librarian. The successful candidate will promote a culture of assessment within University Libraries and lead efforts on assessment related to library services, including access, outreach, and instruction. We are looking for a self-motivated colleague with a commitment to inclusive and equity-minded assessment and the ability to successfully coordinate and/or support multiple assessment projects simultaneously. In addition, the incumbent will provide outreach, instruction and research support for assigned academic units, and engage in commonly shared public service duties.

The Social Sciences and Assessment Librarian will join a team that fulfills a variety of public services functions, including instruction and research, statistical consulting, access services, copyright and digital scholarship, specialized branch libraries, and the multi-media studio.

    Primary responsibilities of the Social Sciences and Assessment Librarian are:

    • Planning and implementing assessment initiatives
    • Coordinating and supporting ongoing assessment, particularly for public services
    • Exploring opportunities for assessment to support student and research success at KSU
    • Communicating the value of Kent State University Libraries to campus partners through assessment results
    • Providing recommendations for adjusting and improving library services to KSUL leadership based on assessment results
    • Guiding KSUL colleagues in utilizing Springshare products in an efficient and goal-directed manner

    In addition, the Social Sciences and Assessment Librarian will serve as a liaison to designated social sciences academic units, which may include:

    • School of Multi-disciplinary Social Sciences and Humanities (SMSSH) – including International Relations, Jewish Studies, LGBTQ Studies, Religion Studies, and Women’s Studies
    • Philosophy 
    • Political Science 
    • Psychology 
    • Sociology and Criminology 

    This position is a 12-month, Tenure Track faculty position. Starting salary: $64,042 at Assistant Professor rank.

    Required Qualifications:

    • MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited program or other relevant graduate degree as deemed appropriate by the Libraries
    • Strong data analysis skills, ability to gather, assess, interpret, and present quantitative and qualitative data for varied audiences
    • Relevant experience in an academic or research library
    • Experience with information literacy and/or library instruction
    • Potential to satisfy the requirements for tenure track faculty reappointment, tenure and promotion
    • Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Evidence of impactful assessment in a library environment
    • Demonstrated knowledge and application of the ACRL Proficiencies for Assessment in Academic Libraries (formerly Proficiencies for Assessment Librarians and Coordinators)
    • Experience with the Springshare suite of products, particularly the assessment tools
    • Minimum of three years’ experience in an academic or research library in a public services or assessment role
    • Familiarity with the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education
    • Additional advanced degree in assessment or a social sciences discipline
    • Record of scholarship
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
    • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace
