The Robert E. Kennedy Library at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) in beautiful San Luis Obispo, California, seeks a motivated, creative, collaborative, user-focused professional to join us in the tenure-track faculty position of Digital Initiatives and Engagement Librarian. We are looking for someone who will bring creativity and passion to leading and developing the strategy, planning and design of the library's digital platforms and public-facing digital interfaces to engage students and faculty with the library’s services that are crucial to a successful comprehensive polytechnic education.
Core responsibilities for this position include developing and leading the overall strategy for user engagement across the library’s digital platforms, including the library website, research guides, and catalog discovery layer, and institutional repository; ensuring user-centered, inclusive, and accessible design in delivering the library’s programs, services, and information resources to advance the academic and scholarly enterprises of the university; leading the library’s web strategy team in developing library-wide content and information standards for digital interfaces, and assuring these standards align with the library’s values and vision, and broader university messaging; collaborating and advising on the creation and dissemination of social media communications in support of library digital initiatives; and Investigating, recommending, and providing consultation on new and emerging technologies, including integrations with other technologies, for delivering the library’s programs, services, and information resources.
The successful candidate will be creative and flexible, adept at working effectively both independently and collaboratively, and capable of building relationships with a variety of stakeholders. A passion for supporting equitable student learning and advancing the values of diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice will be essential to success in this position. The successful candidate will have an active engagement with foundational practices and current trends in user experience and universal design for learning, bringing to bear their outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills. This position requires an MLS from an ALA accredited program or comparable, relevant advanced degree, in addition to three or more years of relevant experience. Kennedy Library recognizes that candidates may have acquired relevant experience in a variety of ways. We expect candidates to be stronger in some required qualifications than others. This 12-month, tenure track, faculty position is available at the rank of Senior Assistant Librarian, with an anticipated hiring range of $78,000- 85,000 plus a generous benefits package. Review of applications will begin June 26, 2023.
