Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Sesquicentennial Archivist to celebrate its 150th year starting October, 2023. The Sesquicentennial Archivist is assigned to the Special Collections and University Archives Department, the position will hold primary responsibility for developing and implementing the department's Sesquicentennial celebration activities to include exhibits and/or events. The position may participate in other functions of the department assisting with university archives acquisitions, writing biographical notes for university archives finding aids, participating in departmental outreach activities, or other duties as assigned. This is a project-based position for one year.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Serve as the department's primary research liaison for Sesquicentennial projects and research

• Provide support to the campus community in conducting research on campus history through provision of professional reference services and identifying quality information sources

• Use independent professional judgment and expertise to conduct original research, design, and curation of Sesquicentennial displays and exhibits, working collaboratively with Libraries department members as necessary

• Collaborate with the Community and University Archivist to serve as one of two contacts for acquisition of campus materials for the University Archives pertaining to Sesquicentennial celebrations

• Assess, research, and independently update the online campus history timeline

• Use creativity and independent judgments to create blog, article, and social media content in coordination with the department's outreach and publicity schedule

• Improve University Archives collection guides by performing original research and writing to create authoritative biographical and administrative histories of campus members and offices

• Supports the department's or University Libraries' activities as needed

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of related experience; OR Master's degree and one (1) year of related experience.

Related experience: Related experience or coursework: exhibit design and/or installation; archives or library outreach activities; using archival collections for research; historical or other academic writing; answering in-depth archival reference questions.

• Knowledge of laws and ethical standards relevant to American archival practice

• Experience with technologies and tools used in archives

• Knowledge or experience of historical exhibit design and production

• Experience working collaboratively and independently

• Experience communicating, serving, and collaborating across cultures and/or with people with a variety of perspectives, experiences, and identities

Compensation Grade

The minimum salary for this position is $60,000. This is a one-year, temporary administrative faculty position at a Compensation Grade B. Salary is competitive and commensurate with related education and experience.
