Head of Metadata Services

Description

The Iowa State University Library is seeking applications for a dynamic and forward-thinking

leader to oversee the Metadata Services Department. This position will lead the Library’s

efforts to identify and develop metadata services while also overseeing and improving existing

practices, workflows, and functions. Success in this position will require curiosity, innovative

thinking, and the ability to lead a team of motivated and high performing staff.

The Head of Metadata Services will collaborate extensively with metadata stakeholders inside

and outside the Library, bringing technical expertise, vision, and an ability to identify and

implement innovative metadata and cataloging solutions that enhance the access and

discoverability of digital assets. Solid skills in personnel management and change management

are essential, as is the ability to develop productive professional relationships. The successful

candidate will bring an understanding of current and emerging metadata and cataloging

standards, controlled vocabularies, models, and applications, as well as familiarity with a

programming language, such as Python, and emerging trends and best practices in task

automation.
