The University Libraries at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a motivated and experienced Systems Administrator to join the Library & Information Technology (L&IT) division.

As a member of a highly collaborative team within the University Libraries’ Infrastructure Management Services department, the Systems Administrator will be responsible for both production and development systems software and related infrastructure, assisting in facilitating systems architectural design, implementation, administration, automation, and maintenance activities for the University Libraries IT infrastructure and various technologies deployed to support this infrastructure. This includes project leadership and consultation across technical platforms and departmental boundaries, evaluating new technologies and services to implement or customize for use by the UNC Community and integrate within established frameworks to support technology and infrastructure for University Libraries services.

The Systems Administrator will assist the Senior Systems Administrator, in the development of an IT infrastructure in an environment that strives for rapid and “early and often” deployment and participate in research and development activities with the objective of testing new information technologies to enhance the University Libraries L&IT infrastructure with the goal of increasing functionality and productivity for the organization. The position will develop and/or recommend solutions for systems architecture design across vendor platforms to adapt existing resources for new and innovative approaches to the organization’s needs and development.

The position works with libraries staff and campus partners to address their business needs, while coordinating with other systems administrators, software developers, project managers, and stakeholders. The Systems Administrator regularly shares progress with stakeholders, seeking input on projects. The Systems Administrator provides support to users throughout the lifetime of the project, troubleshooting problems.

Qualifications
Required

·       Master’s and 1-2 years’ experience; or Bachelors and 2-4 years’ experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.

·       Systems administration experience with Linux operating systems.

·       Knowledge of network and application standards and protocols.

·       Demonstrated experience adopting and adhering to best practices including compliance with maintenance windows and change control procedures.

·       Demonstrated experience providing technology leadership.

·       Ability to work independently.

·       Possess verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.

·       Able to provide after-hours support when needed.

·       Able to work on scheduled maintenance activities after-hours during the week and on weekends.

·       Experience working effectively with a cross-functional team to plan and complete technical projects.

·       Experience fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where differences and complexities in background, cultures, values, and viewpoints are valued.

 Preferred

·       Production and development deployment experience of RedHat Enterprise Linux.

·       Experience with RDBMS (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Microsoft SQL Server). 

·       Automation technologies (e.g., Ansible, or SCCM). 

·       Experience with a common scripting language (e.g., bash, python, powershell, ruby, or php).

·       Experience working with regular expressions.

·       Experience working with Active Directory and LDAP

·       Experience with Windows Server system administration.

·       Experience deploying servers in a virtualization environment (VMWare, or equivalent).

·       Systems monitoring (e.g., OpsView or Nagios).

·       Agile work management (e.g., JIRA, Confluence).

The Region

Salary and Benefits
This position is at will. The University Libraries intends to hire at a minimum of $92,000, with salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.  Standard state benefits of annual leave, sick leave, and State or Optional retirement plan.
