Associate Dean
Description
The Associate Dean will play a key role in developing and executing the library’s long-range plans in support of the university’s strategic vision, with a particular focus on marketing and communications, and engagement with the campus and external community.
Areas of responsibility will include:
• Strategic planning in assigned areas such as diversity, equity, and inclusion
• Communication programs, including marketing and public relations
• External partnerships and outreach
• Grant-seeking and fund-raising in coordination with the university’s Division of Advancement and Office of Research Administration
• Other duties as assigned
About the Library:
Hunter Library has a long, respected record of providing excellent service to the university and region. The library is dedicated to the thoughtful integration of print and digital resources and to supporting and developing the general, information, digital, graphic, and visual literacy of students and the teaching and research needs of faculty and staff. The library has 20 tenure- track faculty members, 29 staff members, and an annual budget of over $4 million. The library offers approximately 2.6 million items of intellectual content, including print and electronic titles and volumes, and provides access to more than 45,000 journals through print subscriptions and electronic databases. The library is an active partner in the Western North Carolina Library Network, NC DOCKS, and the Carolina Consortium.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited institution and 3+ years of progressive experience in academic libraries or large public library; minimum of five years of successful experience in organizational marketing, communications, and/or fund-raising; demonstrated familiarity with academic library operations; effective interpersonal communication and teamwork skills; strong commitment to diversity; expertise in strategic planning and project management; and experience with and knowledge of goal-setting and performance measurement in a complex organization.
