King Library: The Head of the Create and Innovate department/Associate or Principal Librarian leads a department supporting and enabling student and faculty collaboration, scholarship, creativity and innovation.  The department is charged with development and coordination of services supporting creativity and experiential learning, provision of innovative spaces for learning and collaboration support for digital scholarship and digital humanities. Full-time, continuing contract eligible librarians are appointed or promoted to the rank of Assistant Librarian, Associate Librarian or Principal Librarian in accordance with the Libraries Appointment Rank and Promotion System (LARPS) https://www.lib.miamioh.edu/about/larps. The position reports to the Assistant Dean of Libraries.  Miami University recognizes that technology enables us to find new ways of providing first class service and workplace flexibility.  This position is approved for remote work on a hybrid basis.  Remote work is a working arrangement that can be modified or revoked by Miami University at any time for any reason. 
The Head Create/Innovate Associate or Principal Librarian will provide leadership in developing an effective, collaborative, and positive departmental environment; supervising, mentoring, and evaluating activities of library staff; managing change; problem solving; setting vision for the department in alignment with Libraries and University priorities; communicating effectively within and across departments; represent and connect the library as needed at University meetings, events, committees, and other collaborations; oversee the Provision of a wide range of creativity and innovation services for the University community including copyright consulting and instruction, Digital Scholarship services; and Maker/DIY literacy instruction; develop and manage learning and teaching spaces, media production studios, augmented and virtual reality lab, photogrammetry lab, Makerspace, and future collaborative learning and doing environments; the Head meets regularly and works collaboratively with fellow department heads as well as librarians and staff in a team environment to help develop and implement the Libraries’ vision and goals. 
Required: Masters’ degree or higher in library/information science from an ALA-accredited institution or non-U.S. equivalent; a minimum six years of experience working in an academic, research or special library. Appointment at the Associate Librarian level requires a documented record of very strong service to the profession and/or scholarly and creative work which typically includes significant work at the local and regional level and a growing record at the national and/or international level. Appointment at the Principal Librarian level requires a documented record of excellence in service and/or scholarly and creative work which typically includes extensive impactful work at the local, regional and national level.
Consideration may be given to candidates with familiarity with current and emerging technologies; at least 3 years of experience supervising, leading and mentoring librarians; experience assessing library services for effectiveness; experience with fundraising and grant writing; excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated initiative and the ability to manage multiple projects and a commitment to professional development; demonstrated organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills; commitment to fostering an environment of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
