Science and Engineering Liaison Librarian

The University Libraries invites applications from enthusiastic forward-looking candidates for the faculty position of Liaison Librarian Science and Engineering. The Libraries is looking to hire a cohort of Librarians to liaise with various Science and Engineering departments (i.e biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, mathematics). This role involves librarianship; research or scholarly activities; and service activities, including providing services to support education and research in science and engineering departments. Responsibilities include: Engaging faculty through outreach and promotional activities; committee participation and attendance at collegial meetings and events and assisting researchers and students; contributing to the development and delivery of specialized services for research and instruction support, and selecting materials for library collections in all formats to support the liaison departments’ academic programs. The position also includes working with other librarians to provide specialty research services such as data management and maintaining awareness of current trends in sciences and engineering librarianship, higher education, and related academic fields.

Library faculty typically pursue scholarship in areas such as: Inquiry, with research on such topics as, organization of information, user information needs, library contributions to learning, preservation and access, navigating cyberspace, and related topics; Integration, with work, such as applying learning theory to instruction, employing communications theory for reference, and adapting administrative/management techniques to libraries; Teaching, with research on developing, testing, and improving pedagogical techniques to meet the library’s role in teaching people to be independent scholars; and Application, with studies on applying the first three categories to the successful practice of librarianship. Librarians may demonstrate a flexible spirit of inquiry as they pursue investigative projects. Research, scholarly, or artistic activities may address many aspects of knowledge and practice, and the activities of library faculty may vary markedly in their focus.

Ph.D. or advanced degree in science or engineering or a closely related field.

Or 

ALA-accredited MLIS/MLS and previous experience in academic science or engineering library

• Science or Engineering librarianship or information management.
• Science or engineering education, research, or professional practices.
• Research data management or digital curation, preferably in science and engineering or associated fields.
• Academic librarianship in a fast-paced research-intensive university.
• Knowledge of or experience with STEM data analysis tools such as MatLab, Python, or R.
• Knowledge of or experience with tools for collaborative research such as GitHub, electronic lab notebooks, data repositories, data sharing tools, and repositories.
• Experience developing and managing science or engineering-related collections in all formats.
• Knowledge of the information needs of relevant disciplines and an understanding of current trends and issues in scholarly publishing.
• Experience in developing and implementing a service.
