California State University Long Beach seeks an inspirational leader who possesses the academic, financial, and strategic acumen to execute collaborative and transparent leadership for the present and future of the University Library. The Dean is expected to begin this position in the summer of 2023.

The University Library (see www.csulb.edu/university-library) was established to provide direct support for the educational mission of the university through selecting, organizing, preserving, and disseminating recorded knowledge in all its formats and manifestations. The organization provides the human, print, and digital resources necessary for the campus community to locate, retrieve, and evaluate information effectively. Full-time and student staff provide phenomenal experiences for our patrons and assure effective and efficient day-to-day operations. Library faculty serve as subject-specialists and liaisons to the campus’s 63 academic departments and programs, collectively delivering over 800 instruction sessions a semester. They ensure that library collections align with curricular needs and reflect emerging discipline-specific knowledge. CSULB’s smart classrooms equipped with high-tech furnishings provide the ideal layout for classroom instruction and interaction between students and librarians. Library faculty meet the evolving landscape of education through accommodating various alternative modes of instruction (AMI) in online and hybrid learning environments.

 

The Dean will also play a critical leadership role in the success of Beach 2030, an ambitious planning initiative launched in the fall of 2018 (see https://www.csulb.edu/beach-2030).

 

Among the requirements for the position, the Dean must possess an  American Library Association accredited Master’s degree or accredited international equivalent; evidence of the ability to meet the professional requirements of a tenured position through research, librarianship, and service; and demonstrated effectiveness in cultivating diversity, equity and inclusion among faculty, staff, and students.
