Description

Smith College Special Collections seeks a dynamic leader for Head of Technical Services. The successful candidate will be a colleague who has a vision for modern archival and rare books practice, and who is eager to join a community of similarly-driven practitioners. The new Head of Special Collections Technical Services should have interest and ability to work in a complex, high-profile, program-driven environment, and who will think critically about collection management across material types, and services through a user-centered lens.

Smith College Special Collections comprises three unique repositories: the Smith College Archives, the Mortimer Rare Book Collection, and the Sophia Smith Collection of Women’s History. The facilities are state of the art and collections well managed, especially after the completion of a major collections project (Access to Collections 1) in 2021. However, there are still opportunities to grow programmatically and systematically in ways that achieve our goals and meets our departmental mission, particularly around access, description, and digital content management.
