At our Kiel or Hamburg location, we are offering a position at the earliest opportunity to join our team as

Software Architect and Engineer for innovative Research Data Infrastructures

Candidates are supposed to contribute to software development projects such as the BERD Consortium of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). Salary is based on remuneration up to group 13 in accordance with the collective wage agreement for the federal states (Tarifvertrag der Länder) (full-time, currently 38.7 hours/week). According to § 2 section 2 of the federal law of Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (WissZeitVG), the position is limited until 30.09.2026 according to the project period. There is the possibility to combine it with a PhD in computer science.

Your tasks …

  • Development work in the context of a cloud-based information portal to manage digital scholarly resources (e.g. publications, research data) in close exchange with the scientific community
  • Design and implementation of an architecture with integrated core functionalities (e.g., harvest, store, search, access)
  • Integration of external interoperable services and data sources
  • Quality assurance and transition of prototype developments to a productive environment
  • Documentation and publication of project results

Your profile …

Essential:

  • A higher education degree in computer science, information technology or a related technical discipline (i.e. Bachelor’s degree, Master's degree, Diploma or comparable degree from university or university of applied sciences)
  • Coding experience in the development of web-based software solutions or solutions based on web services
  • Conversational language skills in German or English (speaking and writing)

Desirable:

  • Experience with user-driven requirements engineering or agile software development methods (z.B. Extreme Programming, SCRUM)
  • Experience with state of the art software management approaches (e.g. continuous integration, container technologies, code management)
  • Knowledge in the development of web-based information portals
  • Knowledge of web-based user interface development
  • Knowledge of tools for collecting, storing, and re-distributing digital resources, preferably as open source (e.g. Invenio, DSpace)
  • Analytical thinking and result-oriented work style
  • Willingness to learn new programming skills and data science methods
  • Ability to work cooperatively and committed in a team but also independently and self-responsible
  • Communicative, interdisciplinary and intercultural competence as well as willingness, to engage with different stakeholders

Readiness for occasional daily business trips to / from the other ZBW location and for business trips in general is expected.
