The Bowdoin College Library seeks an individual who is an experienced web designer and developer to support and advance the library’s website and its many web-based services. Reporting to the Associate Librarian for Digital Initiatives and Special Collections, the Library Web Services Developer is responsible for the design, development, organization, evaluation, and maintenance of the library’s web presence, including the website and mobile environment, and integrated web applications. As a member of the library’s Digital Initiatives Group (DIG), the Web Services Developer works closely with colleagues to develop and manage the library’s robust systems infrastructure. The ideal candidate for this position will be a skilled technician and creative problem-solver, who is innovative, collaborative, and service oriented.
 

Appointment as Library Web Services Developer and Head of Digital Initiatives may be considered for a qualified candidate with supervisory and management experience. In addition to the job duties of the Web Services Developer, this role would be responsible for the overall administration and strategic leadership of the library’s extensive suite of technology services. In particular, the Head of Digital Initiatives would manage the Digital Initiatives Group (DIG), including supervision of two staff, and would serve as a member of the Library Leadership Team, ensuring that technology is at the forefront of the library’s strategic planning.

The college offers the opportunity for hybrid, remote, and flexible schedules. For qualified candidates, this position has the potential to work remotely from select states (Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maryland, Virginia, and New York).
 

This position:

· Serves as the Library’s webmaster, including creating and managing web content, coordinating projects, ensuring currency of information, and gathering usage statistics.

· Provides technical support for library services, processes, and special projects, and access to the library’s digital resources, including troubleshooting and resolving technological problems and communicating regularly with stakeholders and members of the College community.

· Coordinates work with DIG (Digital Initiatives Group) colleagues and regularly collaborates with a wide variety of individuals from the library, Information Technology, and other College departments.

· Works closely with content creators to migrate and organize their content in a meaningful way.

· Implements College policies and procedures for website structure, format, and accessibility and develops and implements library website policies and procedures.
