Metadata Strategist
Description
Recognizing that a library’s metadata is one of its most valuable and visible assets, Yale University Library is hiring a new Metadata Strategist to take a lead role in coordinating metadata operations across the organization. Campus-wide collaborations such as the Cultural Heritage IT initiative and development of the LUX platform offer significant opportunities for outreach and engagement around metadata services at Yale. We seek applicants who are passionate about serving all library users and ensuring access to the scholarly and cultural record through consistent, robust, and responsible metadata.
The anticipated salary range for the position is $70,000–$85,000 at the rank of Librarian 2 or Librarian 3. This position is eligible to work remotely two days per week.
Example areas of focus for the Metadata Strategist include:
- Working to implement the library’s new Framework for Responsible Metadata Operations, which is intended to transform metadata workflows and practices at Yale and implement critical cataloging principles across the library.
- Managing metadata crosswalks from MARC 21 to Linked Art JSON-LD for the LUX cross-collections discovery platform.
- Partnering with colleagues in Digital Collections to assist with metadata mappings and migration.
