Collections Information Specialist
Description
The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History invites applications from motivated, collaborative information professionals for two Collections Information Specialist positions—one a permanent appointment, and the other a four-year term appointment to support a major collections move and related projects. Both positions are located within the Digital Programs Office, which is responsible for providing internal and public access to data and media documenting more than 1.7 million collections objects.
Both Collections Information Specialist positions will directly contribute to the museum’s goals in digitization, collections stewardship, and access. In addition to conducting a variety of collections data and systems tasks, the people in these positions will develop trainings for staff and other internal stakeholders, provide help desk support for museum departments, and assist in developing and applying digital asset and data modelling best practices.
The most qualified applicants will have knowledge of digital collections applications and standards, ability to work with databases, and customer service skills, as gained through experience, education, or a combination of the two.
