Boston University Libraries seeks a Scholarly Publishing and Repository Services Librarian, who will provide leadership, relationship development, and service ownership for user-centered responsive, and scalable digital scholarly publishing services at Boston University Libraries that empower faculty and students at Boston University with tools, information, and resources for sharing and preserving research and scholarship.
Reporting to the Head of Digital Ventures, this position will oversee the library’s digital repository program (OpenBU) and will manage a team that defines approaches to new service categories, such as support for access to works of digital scholarship, publication series, and research data. The position stays abreast of and engaged with developments in the broader scholarly communication environment, including those that intersect with and inform community participation in the University’s Open Access policy. Further, the Scholarly Publishing and Repository Services Librarian pursues outreach and engagement with faculty and administrative stakeholders across the Charles River Campus community to explore emerging forms of scholarly publications and research outputs, publishing technologies, platforms, and practices to develop, implement, and assess digital engagement and scholarly publishing initiatives that promote and extend the reach of BU’s research communities.

· Builds partnerships and proactively engages with departments and user communities across the university, working with them to identify and develop library supports for their publishing and scholarly communication needs. Services will include providing support and current information on trends and tools that support scholarly publishing, open access, copyright management, and emerging forms of publication and research outputs.
· Works in close cooperation with campus partners (e.g., faculty, Office of Research, Information Systems and Technology, etc.) and colleagues in the Libraries on projects and programs related to library support for scholarly publishing.
· Collaborates on promoting awareness of the changing landscape of scholarly communication to faculty, students, and researchers in collaboration with subject matter experts in the Libraries through outreach and instruction.
· In close collaboration with stakeholders across the university, supports the development and evolution of OpenBU, Boston University’s open access digital repository service.
· Oversees all external digital repository and publishing platform integrations, including BU’s research information management system (Symplectic Elements) and Electronic Theses and Dissertations submission system (ProQuest ETD Administrator).
· Supervises a team of staff and students that provide: 1. assistance with repository services; 2. assistance and guidance to administrators of graduate programs and graduate students to facilitate the electronic thesis and dissertation submission process.
· Collaborates with the Libraries’ Collection Management and Library Technology and Discovery Services teams to ensure that works and digital collections available through tools in this position’s portfolio are visible in the library’s platforms and systems for discovery and access.
· Promotes and provides guidance to faculty, researchers, and staff on the application of FAIR principles to: optimize the reuse of research data and meet funder, publisher, and university requirements for providing public access to research results, including data.
· Monitors developments in scholarly publishing and scholarly communications, including those around open access, digital repositories, technological initiatives, scholarly communication infrastructure, and, funding opportunities, and communicates their implications to the Libraries and University stakeholders.
· Keeps current with changing and emerging professional and research expectations, service requirements, and developments in academic libraries, especially developments in scholarly communications, scholarly publishing and dissemination practices, platforms, and tools.
· Participates in regional, national, and international communities of practice where appropriate.
· Participates on committees, working groups, and project teams to contribute to the development of the Libraries and University strategic initiatives and projects.
· As needed, collaborates with the team in any other related digital projects, digitization projects, and participates in outreach activities.
· Master’s degree and two years of related experience in information systems, library science; OR any equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education.
· Current awareness of academic research and scholarly communication practices and needs related to the management and development of library systems and services.
· Ability to develop and maintain successful partnerships and relationships with librarians, faculty, researchers, and other stakeholders.
· Knowledge of issues and technical challenges related to digital repositories.
· Knowledge of the scholarly publishing process and research lifecycle.
· Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively to inspire a shared vision with colleagues and students in a rapidly changing and diverse campus environment.
· Familiarity with digital repository platform administration.
· Supervisory experience.
